Curriculum
Consideration Co-operation Challenge
Below are links to Year group pages which outline their schemes of work for the year. There is also a link to an assessment page which explains the levelling in English and Mathematics.
Throughout the school, teachers work together to develop schemes of work which enable children to cover a wide curriculum, including those subjects identified in the National Curriculum. The work planned for the children often integrates many of these subjects areas. For example. a piece of science work may also involve the children in Mathematics, English and Technology. Computers and calculators, which are available thoughout the school, are valueable tools to assist this intergration.
The importance of play
‘Play is a child’s work and the means whereby he grows and develops’
Susan Isaac
We believe very strongly in the importance of play as the major element of the child’s development.
Play takes place as part of the planned curriculum; it is structured in terms of the equipment made available and the time given to it. For example, children are given opportunities to plan what they are going to do and to evaluate how well they did.
We believe play offers great opportunities for language development through careful adult intervention and allows children to develop social skills.
It fosters curiosity, imagination and a sense of wonder.
It allows children to explore spontaneously using their senses and is a basis for all future learning.
Although there are many opportunities for structured play in the Reception classes it is important for each child’s development that further opportunities continue throughout the school at a level appropriate to a child’s individual needs.
